CNN Host Puts Conservatives And Roy Moore In Their Place: Humans Make The Laws, Not God (VIDEO)
Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was taken to the woodshed by CNN host Chris Cuomo on Thursday morning for his desperate and unconstitutional effort to prevent same-sex marriage from being legal in the state.
For nearly 30 minutes, Cuomo and Moore battled it out in an epic interview that will leave conservative “Christians” screaming bloody murder for weeks. At issue was Moore’s stance against same-sex marriage and his refusal to obey a federal court decision that struck down Alabama’s same-sex marriage ban, a ruling that the US Supreme Court chose not to delay.
Just hours before same-sex marriages were to begin, Moore issued an order to probate judges across the state telling them not to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples or perform wedding ceremonies. So far, more than 50 judges have joined Moore in his defiance.
But on Thursday, Cuomo took Moore to task, giving him a lesson about where our laws come from.
Moore brought up state’s rights and ranted about how a “lone judge…has no power or authority to tell them how to interpret the federal Constitution.” Except that’s precisely what the job description of a federal judge is, according to the Constitution itself. The main job of a federal judge is to interpret the Constitution, and District court Judge Callie V.S. Granade ruled that Alabama’s same-sex marriage ban violated the Due Process clause of the 14th Amendment. Therefore, the Constitution trumps Alabama law. But Moore compared the ruling to past court rulings that wrongly upheld segregation and slavery. Of course, those rulings upheld inequality and denied people their rights, which is the exact opposite of what our Constitution is supposed to do. The present-day push for marriage equality is about securing equal rights that the LGBT community has long been denied.
Predictably, Moore used the Michele Bachmann argument that same-sex marriage bans do protect equal rights because gay people can still get married to people of the opposite sex. And then Moore brought God into the discussion and Cuomo promptly smacked him down.
MOORE: “Our rights do not come from the Constitution, they come from God.”CUOMO: “Our laws do not come from God, and you know that,” the CNN host said. “They come from man… Our rights do not come from God. That’s your faith, that’s my faith. But that’s not our country. Our laws come from the collective agreement and compromise. You’re citing that marriage is about a divine institution. You’re putting God before the laws of man. You’re making it about that. And it’s about your ideas of your faith about what marriage is.When you take the rules of your religion and you put them on everybody else, that is not what we do in this country. Your definition of marriage is based on your faith, you’ve said it a hundred times, that it is derived from God. That is not how it works here, and you know that. Equal protection applies to all by compromise. And you would even need to have a rational basis for why it would need to be only between a man and a woman, and all you can say is, ‘Because God said so. It’s always been that way.’ That’s not enough.”

And so, Chris Cuomo instantly became a hero to those who stand for the separation of church and state, which Moore and his conservative “Christian” comrades have fought to destroy for years now.
Roy Moore believes our Constitutional rights come from God, as if God reached down with a pen in hand and wrote the document personally. The fact is, however, it wasn’t God at all. 55 human delegates attended the Constitutional Convention in 1787 and spent that summer crafting what would become the basis of our government and legal system. 39 of the delegates signed the Constitution and not one of them was named God. Furthermore, nowhere in the Constitution will you find any reference to God, Jesus, or Christianity. And finally, the Founding Fathers themselves left us a treasure trove of statements that unquestionably prove that the Constitution is a not a Christian document, the Constitution was written by man, and the United States is not a Christian nation. This country and our Constitution is for everyone. And no one has the right to use their religious beliefs to deny or deprive other Americans of their rights. But just in case Moore still insists he is correct, I’ll let John Adams finish what Chris Cuomo began:
“The United States of America have exhibited, perhaps, the first example of governments erected on the simple principles of nature; and if men are now sufficiently enlightened to disabuse themselves of artifice, imposture, hypocrisy, and superstition, they will consider this event as an era in their history. Although the detail of the formation of the American governments is at present little known or regarded either in Europe or in America, it may hereafter become an object of curiosity. It will never be pretended that any persons employed in that service had interviews with the gods, or were in any degree under the influence of Heaven, more than those at work upon ships or houses, or laboring in merchandise or agriculture; it will forever be acknowledged that these governments were contrived merely by the use of reason and the senses.
Thirteen governments [of the original states] thus founded on the natural authority of the people alone, without a pretence of miracle or mystery, and which are destined to spread over the northern part of that whole quarter of the globe, are a great point gained in favor of the rights of mankind.”
~Founding Father John Adams, “A Defence of the Constitutions of Government of the United States of America” (1787-88)
Jesus did NOT write the constitution. Keep your sky daddy out of the law!
