When President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, most Americans wept at the terrible news. Today, it seems like if President Obama were assassinated half of the nation would mourn his loss while the other half would cheer wildly. Which half would cheer you ask? Those who identify as conservatives of course. And just as conservative extremists once called for JFK to be killed during his presidency, they are doing it all over again in the hopes that history will repeat itself.

Conservative extremist Everest Wilhelmsen called for assassinating President Obama on Facebook.

Three days prior to the 50th anniversary of JFK’s death, a right-wing nut job posted a call to assassinate President Obama on his Facebook page. Everest Wilhelmsen identifies himself as a supporter of the Tea Party. He’s also obsessed with guns and the Second Amendment. Furthermore, he’s the head of a militia as well as a birther. In his post flagged by Americablog, Wilhelmsen claims to have the authority to shoot and kill President Obama and says this authority has been granted to him by the Constitution.
“We now have authority to shoot Obama, i.e., to kill him,” Wilhelmsen wrote. “His willful violations and alienation of our Constitution, constant disregard for our peaceful protests and corruption of all the three branches of government, (i.e., rogue and illegitiimate government), reveal the dictator that he is… The authority to kill Obama comes from the 2nd Amendment… I would be very surprised, if Obama does not leave Washington DC today (Nov. 19th) …never to return, if he is not dead within the month. ”
Here’s the image of Wilhelmsen’s offensive post via Americablog.

The militia head also threatened members of the Obama administration on his blog.

Wilhelmsen is also the founder of a militia called the Christian American Patriots Militia, which also has a Facebook page with over 1,300 supporters.
It appears that Wilhelmsen’s post has since been removed, either by himself or by Facebook. But his page is still full of anti-Obama diatribes. One such post calls for removing President Obama before American girls are forced to marry “Muslim rapists.” Yet another claims that President Obama will commit genocide against Christians the same way Hitler tried to exterminate the Jews.
But Facebook isn’t the only place on the internet where he is urging assassinations. Apparently, Wilhelmsen also keeps a blog, which was also flagged by Americablog. And on that blog, he is openly threatening and calling for the killing of high ranking members of the Obama administration if they do not force Obama out of office. He also says his militia has “the right and the weapons” to destroy the current government “by force” instead of via a legal election.

Calling for the assassination of the President is a felony and Facebook should remove the offending posts.

This man is openly advocating for assassinating the sitting President of the United States and overthrowing the legally elected government via a violent coup. Not only should Wilhelmsen be arrested by the Secret Service, Facebook should ban him and remove his pages. If Facebook chooses not to remove his pages as a violation of their standards, I can only assume that they support Wilhelmsen and his goals. That makes Facebook guilty of aiding a man who is committing a felony. Threatening violence against the President is a crime under 18 U.S.C. § 871. This isn’t merely a protest against President Obama or a disagreement with his policies. This is a call to assassinate him. In short, Wilhelmsen’s posts do not qualify as free and protected speech.

Wilhelmsen isn’t the first right-wing nut job to threaten violence against President Obama.

This isn’t the first time a right-wing extremist has called for deadly violence against President Obama on Facebook. A Maine Republican did the same thing in August when he called for someone to “shoot the n****r” on his Facebook page. Two years ago, yet another conservative called for killing Obama on Facebook. Only this time, he threatened the First Family as well. “Assassinate the f****n n****r and his monkey children,” his post read.

While liberals move this country forward by peaceful and legal means, right-wingers threaten violence to take it backwards.

As President Obama moves deeper into his second term in office, the calls for violence against him have only gotten more numerous and desperate from conservatives. Their desire to shoot and kill the first African-American President in our nation’s history has reached fever-pitch. Seeing as how Democrats have ended petty obstruction by hateful Republicans in the Senate, it is expected that threats such as these will only increase and get worse.
Clearly, President Obama is in danger and so is our democracy. These threats justify why the Department of Homeland Security and a West Point think-tank classified right-wing extremists as a dangerous threat to the country. Ever since Obama took office, the right has gone completely crazy with hate. They have zero ideas and are incapable of winning elections by making a reasonable case to voters. They can’t even bring themselves to compromise on anything. So they threaten the nation with guns and violent revolution in order to scare Americans and get their way. This is just another reason why Americans should vote Republicans out of office at election time. They should also reject any candidate who has even the slightest connection with a right-wing think-tank or extremist group. While liberals attempt to move this country forward peacefully by legal means, conservatives only threaten to spill blood in their effort to take it backwards. It’s disgraceful and Facebook should be ashamed for allowing the Everest Wilhelmsens of the world make such threats on their website.
