House Republicans finally noticing their own incompetence

Newly elected House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) speaks to the media as Speaker of the House John Boehner (R) listens after House Republican leadership elections in the Longworth House Office Building on Capitol Hill in Washington, June 19, 2014. Ho
Putting Carry-On David Duke in charge didn't fix the problem? Go figure.
The House Republicans that haven't been able or willing to govern at any other point during Obama's presidency are dismayed, dismayed I tells ya, to realize that winning control of both chambers has not changed any of that.
"It's been ugly," said one conservative member, speaking anonymously to discuss internal conference dynamics. "It's kind of like we're an old rickety boat trying to get out of the dock. … It's been kind of ugly getting out of the harbor. We've bumped into some other boats. We hit our own dock once. … If we can just get to sea, then maybe once we start sailing, get that main sail up, it will be a lot smoother ride."
Yeah, well. Maybe you shouldn't have nailed the rudder hard t' starboard before climbing on the boat. But I'm sure open water is out there somewhere!
"Nobody's brought up border security, which died," said a second member, also speaking anonymously to be more candid. "The pain-capable thing was a disaster. The DHS thing—we thought we were being smart, but all that happened is we sent it to the Senate and it's going to come back with a clean [continuing resolution]."
I would suggest taking a good, long look at the people who proposed you undertake "the pain capable thing" as a supposed easy win and maybe not let them captain the good ship Crazypants anymore.
Anyhoo, Republicans are of course divided on how all this happened and who precisely among them is responsible for it, with Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) suggesting that maybe fellow House members start basing their bills on reality and Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) suggesting that the problem is with Republican leaders being all mean and not letting them set fire to the lifeboats just to see what would happen.
Short version: Republicans are in disarray because their top-notch efforts to not get anything done have resulted in a caucus that can't get anything done. But they've got a bold new plan to keep doing that, so it'll probably all be fine.
